March Wrap Up

Hi everyone! It’s been a while, I know. I haven’t had the motivation or will to blog lately. And while there have been many things I’ve wanted to talk about, almost none of them were book related. Why? I haven’t been reading, to be honest. I read 1 book in March, and that’s only because I read 90% of it in February.

I’ve been thinking of letting my blog transition to include more other things too -my personal life, music, TV, movies, anything I want to talk about really- but then I wonder how many of you would actually care about stuff like that. I mean, I assume the majority of you are here to read my book-related thoughts, right? Let me know! Anyway, let’s get into the wrap up.

what i read 80c8b0

morning star

Morning Star (Red Rising #3) by Pierce Brown // 5 stars // This is the only book I managed to read in March! I read the majority of it in February though. This was so good. Honestly, one of the best finales I’ve read in a while. I know that there are additional books in the series now, but this was originally meant to be the conclusion of the trilogy -which is why I’m calling it a finale. Pierce Brown is a genius.

what i watched 80c8b0

Annihilation // I watched it! I know some people said it’s best to read all three books first because the movie contains more than just the first one but I didn’t want to wait. I wanted to watch it. This movie was SO GOOD! Honestly, much better than I expected it to be. I wasn’t quite sure how they would translate the book to the screen, because the book was already so weird. But they captured it perfectly. The visual effects of this movie are out of this world, and it makes me quite sad I couldn’t watch it in cinemas. I think the big screen would’ve done this more justice than our TV. I have to admit that for the last 15-20 minutes of this film, all that was going through my head was: “What the hell? What I am watching? Am I hallucinating? Is this real?” Worth it, though.

because this is my first life.jpg

I also just started watching Because this is my first life. I’ve only watch 1.5 episodes so far (yes, I had to stop watching in the middle because I was too tired to concentrate on the subtitles), but I’m really enjoying it!

I’ve also watched about 8 episodes of Idol Producer, which is a Chinese talent show (sort of) where 100 (or 101? can’t remember) trainees from different entertainment companies compete for 9 spots in a new music group. They get different challenges every week in dance, vocals and rap while trying to endear the public to them and their talent so people will vote. I quite enjoyed the episodes I watched and started to get attached to quite a few of them. Even though I did start watching for Zhang Yixing at first. If you’ve watched the Korean show Produce 101, it’s extremely similar to that but Chinese.

what i listened to 80c8b0

NCT U – Boss

I fell in love with NCT this month. Especially NCT U to be honest. I think Boss might be the first NCT song I’ve listened to and I’m into it. (especially Taeyong)

NCT U – Baby Don’t Stop

After Boss came Baby Don’t Stop. And wow… If I didn’t already love Taeyong before, I fell for him now. And TEN! YES! Not only is he so talented (I love his voice in this song, and he’s an incredible dancer) but he also seems like the nicest person ever.

MONSTA X – Jealousy

Monsta X is back and I couldn’t be happier. I think they are one of my absolute favorite groups. In fact, I.M may be a strong contender for my ultimate bias. And can we talk about the fact that their MV has subtitles in like 40 languages?? And about that ‘why are you talking about Shownu’ line that Wonho sings??

BLØF – Zoutelande

Living in Belgium or in The Netherlands means that you can’t escape this song at the moment. I never listen to the radio, and even I am bombarded with it. I’ve grown quite attached to it, to be honest. I feel like it’s quite calming. And I also find it quite funny that this song about Zoutelande has suddenly created a lot of tourists for this place!

in real life 80c8b0

To be honest, I don’t know what March has meant for my personal life. I’ve had some really good days, and I got to see some of my uni friends again after quite a while. Those things definitely made me happy. But I have to be honest and say that I’ve been struggling a lot lately. I feel like it’s something I can’t quite talk about yet, but suffice it to say that I’ve been sad often. That’s why I haven’t read much, or watched any shows or movies.

That was March for me! How was your month?
Did you read, watch or listen to anything fun? Let me know!

  1. Hope things will get better soon! I also recently went through a bit of rough time, and as cliche as it sounds, it still comforts me – it will always pass <3.

Sounds like such a good idea to post about other things on your blog, I personally would be interested in something like that and have been thinking of doing that as well because I have a lot of other interests I'd love to talk about. Hope things get better for you soon!

  2. I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling and I really hope that things start to improve for you soon.

As for blog content, my approach is always that people should write about whatever their feeling enthusiastic about – I think it’s the passion people read for even more than the subject. And if you love books I think there’s a fairly good chance you’re going to be into TV and music too – they are closely related in that their stir up strong feelings, or appeal to your imagination.

  3. To be honest, I prefer the life talk on people’s blogs way more than the bookish stuff. I like to know what people are reading, and what their general thoughts are, but I see enough reviews on GR and Bookstagram!

I didn’t like the book Annihilation at all, so I’m really excited for the movie!

*sends hugs* You know I’m here if you need to talk!

    I finally had a really good month. Here’s my wrap-up: 😊

  4. I’m sorry you’ve been struggling, Jolien! Hope things will get better soon, and I’m here if you need someone to talk too. ❤
I for one definitely wouldn't mind reading more posts about stuff other than books. We have similar tastes in music and movies, I think, so I could talk about that endlessly (talking of which, those NCT and Monsta X songs have been the highlight of the past months for me too 😉 ) And it's all about what you feel best writing about!
Also, Annihilation is on my to-watch list, so glad to hear you enjoyed it!

  5. I love blof! My mentor during the first two years of my bachelor married the lead singer haha.

And I don’t know about others but I am here for you so if you want to post about other things I say go for it.
