N.E.W.T. Readathon | My TBR!

I’m participating in a readathon again! It’s been a long time, mainly because I haven’t been reading lately. And by lately, I mean in the past year. I’ve barely read 20 books this year, the lowest amount since 2013… But I’m getting my reading mood back, and I’m hoping to stimulate it by participating in this readathon hosted by Book Roast (runs through the entire month of August).

I didn’t participate in the O.W.L. readathon, so I’ve just picked some random subjects this time around. Maybe next year I can participate in them all and do this properly. To “succeed” in this readathon, you need to pass at least two subjects, and have at least on grade of “outstanding”.

I picked 4 subjects for my TBR. I probably won’t get around to doing them all, but I’ve picked books from my shelves for these and made a TBR so I still have some choices in August. I’m a mood reader, so I need choices! So which subjects will I attempt to pass?

Charms

I think Charms would be my favorite subject in Hogwarts, to be honest. The prompts and TBR picks are:

Acceptable: read a book with magic in it // The Alloy of Law (Mistborn #4) by Brandon Sanderson

Exceeded Expectations: a book with a cover that charmed you // Spellbook of The Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle

Outstanding: a book you think will leave a mark // Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Defence Against the Dark Arts

Acceptable: read the last book in a series // Blood for Blood (Wolf by Wolf #2) by Ryan Graudin

Exceeded Expectations: read a foiled book // The Hazel Wood (The Hazel Wood #1) by Melissa Albert

Outstanding: read a book with the word ‘dark’ in the title or series name // The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) by Stephen King

Potions

Acceptable: colour in the title // Green Rider (Green Rider #1) by Kristen Britain or Blackbird by N.D. Gomes

Exceeded Expectations: book with a male lead character // Hammered (Iron Druid Chronicles #3) by Kevin Hearne

Outstanding: book over 350 pages long // The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Transfiguration

Acceptable: book with grey on the cover // Naderend onheil by Joy Fielding (I swear my copy has a light grey cover… Original title: Shadow Creek)

Exceeded Expectations: author you haven’t read before // I haven’t picked a book yet!

Outstanding: book set in a kingdom/with royals // Prince of Thorns (Broken Empire #1) by Mark Lawrence or The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

So those are all my picks for the N.E.W.T. readathon! Obviously, I don’t think I’ll be able to read them all. Like I said, these are just some choices for me.

A few rules of the readathon:

  • The challenges are level-ups: you have to unlock an ‘acceptable’ before going on to ‘exceeded expectations’
  • every prompt requires its own book, there are no cross-overs allowed
  • audiobooks count

  1. Looks great. I am very intrigued by this readathon. But I am hoping it will be back next year. I don’t think now is the right time for me to do it. 🙂

  2. This looks like such a fun readathon! I really want to read The Hazel Wood and The Hate You Give – I can’t believe I still haven’t read them, especially the latter!

  3. Sounds like such a fun readathon! Best of luck, and would love your updates on the progress throughout the month. I myself am not participating in it I think… but I also haven’t done a readathon in a while, so I’m joining the 24 in 48 readathon this weekend!

      1. Yay, best of luck for both of us this weekend then!!! I have also been reading very little lately, although my Goodreads reading challenge is so far still ahead of schedule. Doesn’t hurt to read more through readathons, though! 😀
