Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is actually classics you wish had modern adaptations but I haven’t read enough classics to truly make a post about this. So instead, I’m talking about 5 books I want to see turned into a movie or TV show. I’m not including novels that are already being made/about to be released like The Hate U Give or Children of Blood and Bone (although I guess I just did). If there is movie news on the books I’m going to mention, let me know, because I am not aware of their adaptations!
The Bone Witch series by Rin Chupeco
Someone turn this series into a TV show, please. I absolutely adore this Asian-inspired fantasy series and I think it would make a great TV show. Especially because it’s told in two timelines: one in which Tea finds out she is a bone witch and can raise the dead, and one in which she has been exiled from the kingdom and is raising monsters from the dead. Plus, I can imagine the beautiful costume designs already!
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Can we have a movie adaptation of this book? I will definitely sob my way throughout the entire movie. Someone needs to stop being a scaredy-cat and make an actual LGBT+ version of The Iliad (or the movie Troy).
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
This would make for such an epic science fiction movie -or TV show, for that matter! Do I really need to explain how amazing it would be to see a movie/show set on a space ship with a diverse and multi-species crew?
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
I adore this story, and I think it would make for a great movie. It’s so pretentious and dramatic and kind of dark, but you find yourself being drawn into the characters’ lives anyway. It’s a fantastic twist on the classic whodunit because you already know who murdered their friend from the beginning. The question is not who, but why.
Running With Lions by Julian Winters
This would be an adorable teen romcom! It’s set during summer football camp (or soccer, if you prefer that term) and follows Sebastian as he deals with leading the team, graduation in the future, and his not-just-friendly feelings towards Emir. YES!
