Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today, we’re talking about the books we’re hoping to receive this holiday season. I will say that this list is purely for my blog. I never get books for Christmas, mainly because no one knows what I already have or have read, and that I primarily read in English while most bookshops here have books in Dutch. Anyway, these are 9 books on my to-buy list.
Lake Silence (The Others #6) by Anne Bishop
I have no idea why I haven’t bought and/or read it. This is one of my favorite series, and I’ve read the first 5 books multiple times already. Maybe it’s because this book follows different characters, that I’m hesitant to pick it up? Anyway, I still want a paperback copy of this because I need to read it at some point.
Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1) by Laini Taylor
I adored her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, but I haven’t read this one. At first, I didn’t read it because the paperback versions of this cover came out much later than the hardback copies, and I prefer paperbacks. Then there was just so much hype! I still don’t have it…
Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram
I mentioned this book in an anticipated releases post, and I still haven’t bought or read it. This follows Darius who goes to Iran for the first time. His Farsi isn’t great, and he doesn’t know all that much about Persian social cues, but he wants to connect with his family and heritage. This sounds so wonderful to me, and I need it in my life.
The Poppy War (The Poppy War #1) by R.F. Kuang
I NEED TO READ THIS. Everyone has been hyping this book up, and it sounds right up my alley. It’s an Asian-inspired fantasy novel that is apparently very violent and graphic, and I need it in my life. This book is just so expensive! Like all adult fantasy, to be honest.
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
No, I have never read this. No, I have never watched the show either. Yes, that is something I need to change as soon as possible.
The Red Knight (Traitor Son Cycle #1) by Miles Cameron
During a book sale I bought the second book in the series, believing it to be the first. It’s still sitting there on my shelf, unread, because I haven’t bought the first book in the series. I’m a mess.
The Black Prism (Lightbringer #1) by Brent Weeks
I’ve heard so many people rave about this fantasy series. Apparently, the magic system and world are mind-blowing, which happens to be my favorite part of fantasy books. I think I haven’t bought this because it’s quite long and I still have some thick books on my shelf, unread.
SPQR by Mary Beard
I actually have this on my Kindle as an ebook! I can practically hear you wondering why I’d want a physical copy if I already have an ebook. Well, this book is quite long. For me, when reading non-fiction I want to hold it in my hands. I want to be able to tab parts and come back to them, or even annotate. I found this book hard to digest in ebook format, which is why I want a hard copy. That way, I’ll be less likely to forget everything I’ve learned.
The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair
Another nonfiction book on my wishlist! From what I can gather this is about 75 colors, shades and hues, their history, and human civilization. “Across fashion and politics, art and war, the secret lives of color tell the vivid story of our culture.” Sounds fascinating!
There you have it, 9 books on my wishlist! Have you read any of these? What books are on your wishlist?
