Friday Reads | July 17th

Here I am, with another Friday Reads post to show you what I’ll be reading during the weekend! I am so very happy at the moment.

As you may know, I had 2 wisdom teeth removed on the 8th. Normally, recovery shouldn’t have taken long but after 5 days I was still experiencing a lot of pain on the right side. My jawbone hurt right up until my ear. So I went to the doctor, who prescribed my antibiotics against an infection –which isn’t easy as I am allergic to most antibiotics– and I am glad to say that I am finally better! I have almost no pain, just a slight annoyance from the threads of the stitches. You may be reading this and thinking “Jolien, why is this here. That’s not relevant!”. Aaaaah, but it is my friend. You see, because I felt so terrible, I didn’t feel like reading. Now, I am delighted and happily reading again. SO HERE WE GO.

At the moment, I am reading Heir of Novron (Riyria Revelations #5-6) by Michael J. Sullivan. I love this story. I have loved these characters throughout the previous 4 books and I can’t wait to see how Sullivan will wrap up their story. Although I don’t think I will be able to handle the end. But no despairing! There is a sort of prequel series being written now, which you know I will be picking up as well.

I haven’t decided on what my next read will be. But here are some of the review books I still have to read and am thinking of picking up. Which one do you think I should pick up next? P.S. The covers will lead to their Goodreads page.

Which of these review books should I pick up next? Let me know what you think!

Friday Reads, July 10th

Hi lovely peeps! It’s Friday again, which means I’ll be talking about what I’ll hopefully be reading during the weekend.

As you may have seen in my previous post, I had 2 of my wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday. The first two days were fine, but today it has gotten to me. My face is swollen, I’m getting bruises in my face, my mouth hurts like hell and I haven’t been able to eat or sleep properly since Tuesday. I’ve been through worse pain before, but somehow this is really getting to me. I’m assuming it’s the not being able to eat properly. I need my food. The point of this little story is that I haven’t really felt like doing much. Not even reading. I’d like to do some yoga but that’s not allowed either… Anyway, here’s what I’m currently reading! I don’t think I’ll finish both books by Sunday, but hey, I can try, right?

nowhere but here the name of the wind

So I just started reading Nowhere But Here (Thunder Road #1) by Katie McGarry. I love me some Katie McGarry and this book sounds so interesting! I don’t think I’ve read a book about a motorcycle club before. Which reminds me, I should really try and watch Sons of Anarchy soon. I’ve heard good things about that series too. I’m really enjoying the book so far, even though Emily annoyed me a tiny bit in the beginning.

On Wednesday, I picked up The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles #1) by Patrick Rothfuss. I knew I’d have to wait in the hospital for a few hours until they would come and get me for my operation and it seemed like an excellent time to pick this one up. I’m about 170 pages in, and all I can say right now is that it is unlike anything else I’ve read. Which isn’t a bad thing!

Have you read any of these? LET ME KNOW. Side note: my e-reader is broken. I think someone may have stepped on it while it was in my purse. Do any of you have a favorite e-reader? Any advice for a girl who’s desperately missing hers?

Friday Reads, July 3rd

HELLO EVERYONE. It’s weekend again. I get to say that every week because of these Friday Reads posts, and that sentence always seems to make me happy. Every time.

Before I talk about the books I’ll be reading this weekend, I’ll talk about a personal thing. I dyed my hair again. I’ A REDHEAD NOW. I feel very powerful because of it. No clue why. And I know that you guys probably couldn’t care less about my hair, but I’m excited so I wanted to share. I you want to see a picture, you can go over to my Twitter profile.

Other personal news! As some of you may know, I had been absent in the past month because of my finals. I can now say that I have my bachelor’s degree! I DID IT. I earned my degree –I can’t believe it’s been three years already. So now onto my master’s, and then I’ll have to go and find work –suddenly gets depressed.

Now, onto the books.

So, I’m still reading Rise of Empire (Riyria Revelations #3-4) by Michael J. Sullivan. I’m on the 4th book now, and back into it! I had put it down for a while because I wasn’t in the mood to read it. But now, I am back into the world of Royce and Hadrian -and loving it.

I’m also still listening to The Thousand Dollar Tan Line (Veronica Mars #1) by Rob Thomas & Jennifer Graham. I’m about halfway through and the mystery is gripping me. WHERE ARE THE GIRLS. WHO TOOK THEM. I need to figure it all out.

I might pick up more books but I don’t think so, seeing as I’m having a pretty busy weekend. I’m in my first week(s) of summer holidays and let me just tell you: I am loving it! It’s sunny in Belgium –which is not something you can often say– I don’t need to do anything but blog, read and cook. The good life, no?

Friday Reads, June 26th

Hi everyone! It’s time for another #FridayReads post to show you what I’ll –hopefully– be reading this weekend. And as an exciting side note, I’m going to the book fair this Sunday! I’m hoping to score some great books at extremely low prices If I do, a book haul will come.

First of all, I’m currently reading Rise of Empire (Riyria Revelations #3-4) by Michael J. Sullivan. I picked it up a week or two ago because I loved the first book so much. I’m not really feeling this one though. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really good. I guess I’m just not in the mood to read it right now. Mood reader problem #1…

I’m also listening to the audiobook of The Thousand Dollar Tan Line (Veronica Mars #1) by Rob Thomas. It’s narrated by Kristin Bell which makes it all the more epic. I really wanted some more Veronica Mars in my life! So far, I’m loving it.

I also want to pick up Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter #4) by J.K. Rowling. I think I am in a throwback mood, as I’m needing some Veronica Mars and some Harry Potter in my life right now. I’m not sure whether I’ll re-read my paperback version –I adore these covers!- or listen to the audiobook. I love Stephen Fry, but the audiobook is like 20 hours, and I’ve never tackled an audiobook that long before.

What are you currently reading? 🙂

Friday Reads, June 5th

YES PEOPLE IT IS FRIDAY. I don’t know why I am so excited about that, as my exams make this otherwise joyous fact irrelevant. Whether it is Saturday or Tuesday, I’m still studying. But there is just something about the concept of Friday that makes me happy anyway. Also, it is currently 31°C in Belgium. WHAT? Let me tell you, that is NOT a very common occurrence here, especially in June. Good weather makes me happy. I will try and stop rambling now. I’m sorry.

murder of crows the hobbit harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban

I am currently listening to the audiobook of Murder of Crows (The Others #2) by Anne Bishop. I discovered Scribd a few days ago, and am really loving it! No, I am not sponsored to say this. I have a free trial, which is incredible and discovered that they had my favorite urban fantasy series as audiobooks. So I knew I had to re-read them in audio form!

I was reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien before, as I lent a really nice illustrated version from the library. I had to return that though, but no worries, I have my own copy as well! So I can still finish re-reading this, or even listening to the audiobook.

Lastly, I have started listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter #3) by J.K. Rowling. I haven’t listened to it in a few days, but I think I will continue after Murder of Crows –or maybe after Vision in Silver, the third book.

So, I’ve noticed a trend here! In the past few weeks, I have done so much re-reading. I’m even thinking of making a separate blog post on it. Let me know if that is something you’d like to see!

Friday Reads: May 29th

So it’s Friday again, which means I’m back with another post to show you what I’ll be reading this weekend. As always, the titles will lead you to their Goodreads pages!

So, right now I am in a period us Belgian students like to call “blok”. It basically means that classes are over but exams are coming up soon and you spend every waking hour trying to cram some knowledge into your brain before the exam period actually starts. But seeing as reading is apparently a way for me to de-stress, I’m still trying to read in between. And I’ve discovered the gloriousness –that’s not a word, is it?– of audiobooks!

You+should+be+studying+you+should+be+studying+not+looking_baf9ba_3678437

I wish I had my personal Avengers-squad to help me study.

ANYWAY. Let’s get into what I’ll be reading!

angelfall the hobbit harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban

So first of all, I am currently reading Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee. Because End of Days was released this month, I decided to finally purchase the physical copies! I’m re-reading Angelfall and World After before going on to End of Days, because I don’t know whether I remember enough to just continue. Besides, I absolutely adored the first two books.

Secondly, I’ll be (re-)reading the rest of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I started this a week or so ago, but haven’t had the time to continue on. Or maybe I’ll just listen to the audiobook! I’m really starting to get into those, but more on that later. I’ve been going through a huge Middle Earth-withdrawal in the past few months and decided to re-read The Hobbit to cure those feelings.

Lastly, I’ll probably be listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter #3) by J.K. Rowling. Again, I’ve been going through withdrawals! And I decided to try out a new medium this time. I had read the books before in Dutch, then in English and now, I thought it was time to try and listen to them. So I listened to book 1 and book 2 in the past week or two. Also, Stephen Fry narrates them. He’s an incredible narrator, I absolutely adore him! I was never really into audiobooks as I found it hard to concentrate on them, but lately I’ve been really loving them. So excited!

What are you currently reading? Or do you have any audiobook-recommendations for me?

Friday Reads, May 22nd

Hi everyone! It’s time for another #FridayReads post, to show you what I’ll be reading during the weekend. Today will be my last day of class for this school year, as my exams start on June 3rd. I do have some reading plans for this weekend though, so let’s get into it!

a stolen life finding audrey

So I’m still listening to the audiobook of A Stolen Life – A Memoir by Jaycee Dugard. I don’t think I’ve listened to this since last weekend. Oops. Well, I have less than an hour to go so I should be able to finish this one by next week.

And then for the exciting news! I’m going to be reading Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella. If that is not exciting enough, I’ll be reading it together with Kyra @ Blog of a Bookaholic! I’m SO excited to read this one with her, I’m a huge Sophie Kinsella fan and am curious to see what she’ll do with YA.
